These were the saloons, estates and hatchbacks that took children to school, business people to work, and families on holiday but are now so rare.
A cheap and very cheerful antidote to the more exclusive affairs taking place elsewhere this summer, the brilliant Festival of the Unexceptional swaps multi-million pound motors for those everyday heroes we used to drive but now rarely see on the road.
In short, don’t expect to see too many Ferraris: last year’s event was won by a 1977 Chrysler Alpine ahead of a Datsun Bluebird 1.6 GL saloon, with the People’s Choice award going to a 1982 Fiat Strada 65CL.
The Feast of the Unexceptional is also returning this year. Visitors are encouraged to bring a 1970s/80s style picnic – the best will win an award! So bring out the Battenberg cake, Curly Wurly bars, cheese and pineapple on sticks and, of course, the obligatory bottle of Babycham!
Classic vehicles of all eras are very welcome, and those with a Classic Car Parking ticket will be displayed on the event field.
